School funding bills come out of committee, one step closer to fully funding education 

March 25 (Hartford) — School Funding bill HB5283 has passed out of the education committee and into the next step of the legislative process. The bill will now be moved forward to the state house and senate before being reviewed by the appropriations committee.

Educators for Excellence – Connecticut (E4E-CT) has been actively providing public testimony on behalf of teachers throughout the state in support of HB5283. Teachers and E4E-CT staff alike voiced their concerns over lack of funding in our highest needs district and highlighted what more funding would mean for students.  

“We applaud the committee chairs and broader committee for prioritizing school funding and HB5283 during this short session,” said Daniel Pearson, state director of E4E-CT.  “Now we look to leadership in the house, senate and the appropriations committee to fully enact this bill and give our schools the equal funding our students need and deserve.” 

Passing HB5283 would mean expediting the ECS phase in and fully funding education by the time the federal dollars run out, giving our schools the opportunity to provide necessary resources for our students, while also easing the burden that often falls onto the shoulders of our educators.
