Educators for Excellence-New York Reacts to Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza Exit

February 26 (New York) — Educators for Excellence-New York (E4E-New York), a teacher-led organization, reacted to New York City Public Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza stepping down.

“Thank you Chancellor Carranza for all you’ve done for city students and teachers during this tumultuous time,” said E4E-New York member Ife Damon, a high school English teacher at Curtis High School in Staten Island. “My colleagues and I are looking forward to working with Meisha Porter to expand innovative practices to meet students’ needs during and beyond the pandemic, such as community-based learning and restorative justice.”

“Chancellor Carranza, thank you for your service, commitment and resolve on behalf of the students, teachers and families of our city, and for bringing your experience as a teacher to your role,” said Paula L. White, Executive Director of E4E-New York. “As a Black female educator, I am thrilled to see someone who looks like me and so many of our students slated to lead our education system. E4E educators are optimistic that Meisha Porter will listen to the expertise of educators as she faces the greatest challenges our schools have seen in decades. We are certainly excited to partner with her to provide all students an excellent and equitable education.”
