Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles Reacts to Tentative Reopening Plan

March 11 (Los Angeles) — Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles (E4E-Los Angeles), a teacher-led organization, today reacted to Los Angeles Unified School District and United Teachers Los Angeles tentative agreement on reopening schools. 

“Over the last year, many students, families, and educators have lacked the necessary supports to enhance distance learning and it has resulted in significant learning loss,” said E4E-Los Angeles member Lyndsey Bonomolo, an Early Education Special Education Teacher. “With a plan in place to return to classrooms, it is our responsibility to prioritize recovery and prevent our students from falling even further behind.” 

“As one of the last major school districts in the country to address reopening, this agreement couldn’t be more timely,” said Sarina Sande, Deputy Director of E4E-Los Angeles. “Teachers across LAUSD are telling us that many students are not engaging in virtual classrooms, or not showing up at all. We need better data to tell us where our missing kids are and concrete plans to help close the historic gaps caused by unfinished learning.”
