Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles Announces Teacher-Informed Policy Priorities

Teacher members look forward to advocating for issues including equitable funding, culturally relevant education and more holistic assessments

October 20 (Los Angeles, CA) — Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles (E4E-LA), a teacher-led organization, announced their Policy Agenda targeting the most pressing issues facing students and teachers in LA today. The teacher-informed policy priorities include equitable funding; social-emotional wellbeing; culturally relevant, antiracist education; compensation; holistic assessments; and teacher preparation.  

“Teachers have a front-row seat to the severe impacts of the pandemic on our students’ social-emotional health and academic progress, and it is imperative we take action to address these problems now,” said E4E-LA member Lovelyn Marquez-Prueher, an English-Language Arts Coordinator and former Middle School English teacher for LAUSD. “Our students deserve an excellent education, and these policy priorities reflect what educators know will make classrooms more effective and equitable for all of our kids.”

“The pandemic widened the opportunity gaps that have existed for decades in Los Angeles, making it more clear than ever the effort that is needed to provide the type of education that all communities deserve,” said Sarina Sande, Deputy Director of E4E-LA. “With the unprecedented investment in education and the reinvigorated focus on our classrooms, E4E-LA’s policy agenda identifies the greatest areas of impact identified by LAUSD educators. We must seize the moment and let teachers lead in enacting policies that will lead to better outcomes for all of our students.”
