Educators for Excellence-Boston State Director Lisa Lazare Response to Superintendent Brenda Cassellius’ Resignation

February 7 (Boston) — Educators for Excellence-Boston (E4E-Boston), a teacher-led organization, reacted to the announcement on February 7, 2022 that Superintendent of Boston Public Schools (BPS), Brenda Cassellius, would resign at the end of the current school year. 

“E4E-Boston would like to thank Dr. Cassellius for her three years of service during an unprecedentedly difficult time – and we applaud Mayor Wu’s decision to not appoint an interim Superintendent, sparing students and staff the possibility that they would have four different leaders in four years,” said Lisa Lazare, State Director of E4E-Boston. “The only way to meet Mayor Wu and the Boston School Committee’s ambitious goal of hiring a new leader by the end of the school year will be to include educator voices at every step of the process. The constant turnover in the Superintendent’s office over the last decade has made BPS educators experts in what it takes for a leader to be successful. They must have a seat at the table to share these insights. I am hopeful that with the selection of a leader who has been vetted by educators, we can begin a new era of stability and progress in BPS.”
