CHANCELLOR DAVID BANKS TO DISCUSS SCHOOL CURRICULA, IN RESPONSE TO GROWING CONCERNS FROM EDUCATORS
NEW YORK CITY—Chancellor David Banks will gather with educators and school advocates at CUNY Graduate Center January 18, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss a vision for improving New York City’s school curricula. This comes after over one hundred educators signed a letter in support of addressing the inconsistent, school-by-school approach to curricula selection that leaves thousands of the city’s students with low-quality resources. A survey conducted by Educators for Excellence also revealed that just 38 percent of New York City educators report that curricula are high quality and well aligned to learning standards. In discussion with Chancellor Banks, educators across the city will highlight a path forward to ensuring that curricula are high quality and standards-aligned, especially as schools continue to recover from pandemic learning loss.
