New Bridgeport teachers group calls for better “PD”

Original article in The Connecticut Post by Linda Conner Lambeck.

Educators 4 Excellence, a group funded at least in part by Steve Mandel’s Lone Pine Foundation, release a policy plan this week, calling for a better, teacher-driven system for professional development.

The group presented the plan during what they called a conversation with Interim Schools Superintendent Fran Rabinowitz at a downtown location called the B:Hive. Looking on were a few dozen teachers and several leaders of the Bridgeport Education Association, as was John Bagley, a member of the school board.

Part of a national organization that says it wants to elevate the voices of teachers in education policy discussions, Educators 4 Excellence has chapters in Los Angeles, New York and Minnesota. Ranjana Reddy, executive director of the new Connecticut chapter said the group wants changes to the professional development, or training, that teachers get on an ongoing basis to make it more meaningful.
