U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Report Cites E4E Members and E4E’s National Teacher Survey

Something huge happened this morning — and it was in large part due to the work of E4E members!

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, the only independent, bipartisan agency charged with advising the President and Congress on civil rights, released a major report this morning which examines how federal laws and policies are failing to protect students of color and students with disabilities from discrimination in school discipline practices.

The report includes numerous references to E4E members who:

• Testified at the Commission’s hearing on school discipline;
• Met directly with Secretary DeVos on protecting federal discipline guidance aimed at reducing discrimination in school discipline;
• Shared real-life stories from their classrooms on how discrimination in discipline feeds the school-to-prison pipelines; and
• Worked to create a ground-breaking national survey of America’s educators that found teachers overwhelmingly support restorative practices over punitive discipline.
