FY22 MN Teacher Resilience & Action Team Application

What’s happening?

The ongoing public health crisis has only intensified the inequities our students have faced for decades. In schools in our city, state, and nation, students of color and those living in poverty are being shortchanged. Perhaps some of the most glaring and enduring inequities are linked to school funding policy, punitive discipline practices, and limited access to diverse and experienced teachers. We’ve heard that we can’t return to normal, but that’s exactly what’s happening. Along with new challenges, this pandemic has sparked more opportunities than ever for educators to lead the fight for a more just and equitable school system for their students.

Last year, E4E members made big progress at the legislature when they defended the current teacher licensure system, which increases access to full licensure to a diverse teacher force. They started a crucial conversation about equitable school funding, opening windows of opportunity to make changes to the way our state funds the schools and students that need the most. The work continues – we need teachers to lead the conversation and help make decisions now more than ever.

Who should apply?

E4E seeks a core group of committed educators to join the Teacher Resilience and Action Team. This team will include 15-20 current educators who will meet regularly for two months (November – December). Building off of previous issue campaigns while responding to the current moment, this team will:

  • Build a community of resilient leaders, dedicated to a more just and equitable education for all students during this time of uncertainty

  • Create a vision for concrete policy change in one or more of the following areas:
    • Teacher diversity
    • Equitable access to experienced and high quality teachers
    • Eliminating racial disparities in discipline
    • Equitable school funding
  • Assess the landscape and identify clear levers of change
  • Develop a campaign plan to advocate for change
  • Educate, organize, and mobilize their colleagues to drive the campaign

Key dates

Teacher Resilience and Action Team Meetings

  • The team will meet for 5 sessions from mid-November to early January

  • Meetings will be scheduled based on the availability of applicants
  • There will be no meeting the week of Thanksgiving and during winter break
