Rise to the Challenge: How Districts and Educators are Innovating to Serve

The Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation, in partnership with Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles and the Education Trust-West, proudly presents Rise to the Challenge: How Districts and Educators are Innovating to Serve Their Communities, an event focused on elevating teacher and parent perspectives on distance learning in LA and showcasing the unique and innovative ways teachers have met the challenges of the virtual classroom.
Framed by parent and educator survey responses, Rise to the Challenge will highlight some of the most promising approaches adopted by school districts across Los Angeles County to the most challenging issues. Earlier this year, Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles published Voices from the Virtual Classroom – A Survey of Los Angeles Educators and revealed teacher perspectives on a wide range of topics regarding distance learning. Education Trust-West conducted a poll of California and LA parents and identified some of the biggest challenges facing families during remote instruction. Together, these groundbreaking surveys identified two areas of immediate concern: a lack of targeted interventions for students hardest hit by the challenges of distance learning and the need for additional social-emotional support and development for students.
While returning to in-person instruction is a priority, distance learning will remain a relevant and active form of education for thousands of students for the foreseeable future. As a result, we need to focus on best practices, innovations, and solutions for our distance learners to ensure a high quality education regardless of setting.
At Rise to the Challenge, The Greater Los Angeles Education Foundation will share systems level interventions identified through a countywide scan of Learning and Continuity Plans, as well as teacher-led projects designed to reach students facing the unprecedented obstacles presented by the pandemic. Join us to learn more about these innovations on March 10th!
Teachers, administrators, and advocates are encouraged to attend to learn more about the promising practices of innovative districts implementing targeted interventions for specific student groups and supports for student social-emotional learning and development.
