Educators for Excellence-New York Reacts to New York City Budget Agreement

June 14 (New York) — Educators for Excellence-New York (E4E-New York), a teacher-led organization, reacts to the news that the New York City budget agreement includes increased funding for an additional 285 social workers in New York City Public Schools, with 115 social workers specifically to support students experiencing homelessness.  

“For teachers and students, this budget moves our city forward toward greater educational equity,” said Paula L. White, Executive Director of Educators for Excellence-New York. “By expanding the number of professional social workers in schools, students — especially those experiencing homelessness — will have the support they need so they can continue to pursue an education. This is a need that educators have urged the Mayor to address since he took office. At a time when more than one in 10 students experience homelessness, this isn’t just a smart budgetary move, but a humane one.”
