Educators for Excellence-Minnesota Reacts to Minneapolis Federation of Teachers Election Results
May 15 (St. Paul) — Educators for Excellence-Minnesota (E4E-Minnesota), a teacher-led organization, congratulates Greta Callahan in her successful bid for president of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT), along with those who won officer and executive board positions. Uncertified election results were shared with MFT members earlier today.
“Congratulations to the winners and everyone who ran in the MFT elections. As a union steward, I hope our newly-elected leaders will prioritize fostering meaningful dialogue across lines of difference and work to make our union more inclusive and student-centered,” said Aberdeen Rodriguez, a teacher at Edison High School and member of E4E-Minnesota. “Moving forward, I am hopeful that we can engage in authentic dialogue and work together to empower more teachers to lead on pressing issues, such as making school funding more equitable. Now, more than ever, we need to come together to address educational injustices that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“We are proud of the E4E members who boldly ran for union office standing on issues of equity and inclusion,” said Madaline Edison, Executive Director of E4E-Minnesota. “It’s clear from the record turnout in these elections, educators not only feel it is a crucial time to have a voice in decisions impacting their classrooms and careers, but that MFT needs to make progress in incorporating the diverse perspectives of our city’s teachers.”
