Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles Congratulates New LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho

“As an educator, I am thrilled to have a leader who has served in the classroom and as a principal appointed to head our district,” said Joni Badar, an eighth grade English teacher at Stephen M White Middle School. “To successfully build an equitable education for all students in Los Angeles, it is essential that our new superintendent listens to and works alongside teachers. Congratulations to Alberto Carvalho on his well-deserved appointment.”

“With the selection of Alberto Carvalho, the Board has chosen a new superintendent who has proven success over 13 years as the head of Miami-Dade County Public Schools,” said Sarina Sande, Executive Director of E4E-Los Angeles. “In Los Angeles, the pandemic has exacerbated the many existing equity gaps for our students. His experience in accelerating academic achievement, expanding vital programs, and fighting for the needs of a diverse student population will be essential to meet the moment we are in. This is an exciting day for LAUSD, for our educators, and for all of our students.”
