Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles Applauds Union and District Leaders for Resuming Negotiations
January 17 (Los Angeles) — Educators for Excellence–Los Angeles (E4E-Los Angeles), a teacher-led organization, celebrated last night’s announcement that the United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA) and the Los Angeles Unified School District would return to the bargaining table.
“We applaud UTLA President Caputo-Pearl and Superintendent Beutner for returning to the negotiating table to create a contract that is fair for teachers, financially sustainable and meets the needs of our most vulnerable students and schools,” said Ama Nyamekye, Executive Director of E4E-Los Angeles. “We also appreciate Mayor Garcetti and his team for serving as a mediator and bridge-builder between our district and union leaders.”
“Despite the cold rain, teachers have been raising their voices in support of their students and profession, and district staff have been hard at work creating a safe space for students who rely on our schools as a second home. Now it is time for us to focus on an agreement and on a long-term strategy for raising state dollars to better fund our schools. Our hope is that our teachers, students and families will return to schools that are better supported and sustainable for the long haul.”
