Educators for Excellence-Connecticut Reacts to Governor Lamont’s Student Loan Subsidy Program
Educators for Excellence-Connecticut (E4E-Connecticut), a teacher-led organization, today reacted to Governor Lamont signing student loan subsidy legislation for educators who commit to serving in Connecticut’s highest need school districts.
“Governor Lamont signing this legislation is a major step forward in increasing teacher diversity in Connecticut and reducing chronic teacher shortages in high-needs areas,” said Daniel Pearson, state director of E4E-CT. “The highest needs districts have the greatest teacher turnover and subsidizing student loans for the teachers who serve these districts will incentivize them to stay longer and increase teacher diversity, improving the long-term outcomes for all students. Moving forward, we hope to see policies that go beyond loans, including increased teacher compensation, and improved preparation and professional development programs.”
