Educators for Excellence Boston Congratulates and Looks Forward to Working with Mayor Kim Janey

March 23 (Boston) —  Educators for Excellence Boston (E4E-Boston), a teacher-led organization, congratulates Kim Janey on her historic elevation to become the first Black person and the first woman to serve as Mayor of Boston. 

“Congratulations to Mayor Janey. As she takes office I urge her to immediately work to build trust between the public, BPS families, and BPS teachers by clearly communicating the challenges that exist as we move to safely reopen schools,” said Francis Pina, E4E-Boston member and math teacher at Charlestown High School. “I know she has the unique ability to galvanize our city around major challenges that affect the future of Bostonians, including in education. I encourage Mayor Janey to leverage data, her experience in the fight for education justice, and the resources that come with the highest office in our city to foster collaboration between multiple sectors, especially post-secondary institutions, to tackle inequities within our city.”

“Mayor Janey has spent her career fighting for students by demanding a more equitable education system and I look forward to her continuing this fight from the highest office in our city,” said Lisa Lazare, State Director of E4E-Boston. “Our educators are ready to partner with the new Mayor on the numerous issues where we agree that systemic change is needed. In particular, we hope the Mayor’s office will be a supporter of our A Better Curriculum (ABC) campaign to ensure students in BPS have access to high-quality, antiracist curricula that elevate the perspectives and histories of individuals and communities who have been previously left out.”
