E4E-Chicago Names Dr. Marlena Little As Executive Director

April 1, 2025 (Chicago) – Educators for Excellence-Chicago (E4E-Chicago) announced today that Dr. Marlena Little has been hired as its new Executive Director, effective immediately. A trusted leader in Chicago’s education space, Dr. Little brings a proven track record of driving academic growth, transforming school culture, and elevating educator voices across the city.

Dr. Little previously served as Principal of Dr. King Academy of Social Justice in Chicago Public Schools, where her leadership led to marked improvements in student achievement and school climate. She is also a member of the Surge Institute’s Black Principals Network and a published researcher, having earned her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership with a focus on “Retaining and Reviving Black Teachers in Urban Schools: An Examination of Why They Persist.”

“Dr. Little is the kind of bold, visionary leader Chicago’s educators need right now,” said Evan Stone, Co-Founder and CEO of Educators for Excellence. “She knows what it takes to lead a school, build coalitions, and fight for equity. We’re thrilled to have her at the helm of our Chicago chapter.”

Dr. Little joins E4E-Chicago at a critical moment. E4E-Chicago educators are pressing the school board to honor state law by establishing the Black Student Achievement Committee, even as equity and diversity efforts face growing attacks across the country. With the Trump administration calling to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, local leadership that centers teacher and student voice is more vital than ever.

“Educators are on the front lines advocating for their students and their profession — and I’m ready to stand with them,” said Dr. Little. “At a time when national leaders are working to silence our voices, Chicago teachers are speaking up louder than ever. I’m proud to lead a movement that ensures their expertise shapes the policies that impact our kids and our profession.”

As Executive Director, Dr. Little will lead a growing network of more than 8,000 E4E–Chicago members, mobilizing educators to influence education policy, advocate for systemic change, and ensure every student has access to an excellent and equitable education.
