Educators for Excellence Signs Joint Accountability Letter & National Teacher Leader Council Makes Public Comment

Educators for Excellence’s 2021 National Teacher Survey, a nationally representative survey of teachers across the country, found that nearly 70% of surveyed teachers advocated for use of assessments to identify students of additional support and resources. Only a minority were in support of using such assessments as punitive measures toward teachers or students. 

In December, the U.S. Department of Education issued draft guidance and called for public comment. Educators for Excellence and the National Teacher Leader Council (NTLC) co-authored a public comment to affirm aspects of the guidance and suggest additional teacher- and student-centered considerations to the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. 

In addition to the letter shared above, Educators for Excellence added their support to the All4Ed Joint Accountability Letter. This letter, co-signed by dozens of education organizations, advocates to continue the guidance released by the Department of Education (ED) to use assessment measures to identify and support schools who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. The letter emphasizes that accountability measures are a vital tool for students and staff who have been disadvantaged by the pandemic to get access to resources and support.
