Joon Yong Choi National Development Manager

Joon was born in DaeJeon, South Korea, but spent most of his life in the tristate area. He grew up in Princeton, NJ and moved to Boston to attend college at Boston University before finally settling down in New York City.

After graduating from BU, education quickly became the focus of Joon’s life. He taught at a middle school in Bronx as a special education social studies teacher and achieved a master’s degree in Teaching Special Education from Relay GSE. To understand education from a global perspective, he enrolled in Teachers College at Columbia University and is currently pursuing another MA degree in International and Comparative Education.

After 4 years in the classroom, Joon developed more questions than answers about the education system. He joined E4E because he realized that his impact as a teacher was limited and in order to achieve educational equity, there needs to be large-scale systemic change. As a proud Korean American, Joon is eager to use his experience and perspective to be a force for change during a time when teachers and students need it the most.

Educators are the main drivers of change in the classroom, and it should be no different outside of it. Supporting educators to lead on policies that impact education will drive the change we need to achieve a sustainable and equitable future.
