Jahneel Small, born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx, New York, is a dedicated educational leader passionate about fostering equity and excellence in education. Having grown up without teachers who looked like her or who provided the support she needed, Jahneel was inspired to become the supportive presence she lacked. She pursued a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Morgan State University, an HBCU, and later earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.
Jahneel’s teaching career spans various roles and grades, including founder teacher at Brilla College Preparatory Charter School and third-grade teacher at Bronx Charter School for the Arts.
Her extensive experience includes roles as Dean of Students, where she focused on social-emotional learning and school culture, and as a Community Engagement Manager, advocating for educational justice and mobilizing community support. Jahneel’s work is deeply informed by her commitment to creating equitable opportunities for all students.
Joining Educators for Excellence allows Jahneel to merge her advocacy and leadership skills, empowering teachers to drive meaningful policy changes. She is passionate about supporting educators in becoming agents of change, ensuring every student has access to a quality education.
