Educators for Excellence-New York (E4E-NY) Congratulates Kamar Samuels on Appointment as NYC Public Schools Chancellor

Evan Stone, Co-Founder and CEO of E4E, issued the following statement on the appointment of Kamar Samuels as NYC Public Schools Chancellor:

“We’re thrilled to congratulate Kamar Samuels on his appointment as Chancellor of NYC Public Schools. Our city’s school system is gaining a leader with deep, firsthand experience inside the system and a clear track record of improving instruction and expanding opportunities for students.

“We are especially encouraged by Chancellor Samuels’ experience implementing strong, research-based curriculum, and we’re hopeful that it will translate into strengthened and expanded implementation of these historic instructional shifts citywide. As superintendent of Manhattan’s District 3, Chancellor Samuels led the rollout of NYC Reads at both the elementary and middle school levels, while preparing for the next phase of math improvements under NYC Solves. He has also done extraordinary work to desegregate schools by removing middle school screeners and expanding access to International Baccalaureate programs, opening doors for more students to rigorous, engaging coursework.

“We also commend Mayor Zohran Mamdani for appointing a chancellor with deep experience in the system, and for taking a thoughtful, responsive approach to school governance. His commitment to maintaining mayoral control while meaningfully strengthening the voices of parents, educators, and the community reflects a willingness to listen and lead with nuance. Strong accountability and authentic engagement are not mutually exclusive, and New York City’s students are best served when both are present.
