Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles Reacts to the Withdrawn Plans to Extend the School Year

Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles (E4E-Los Angeles), a teacher-led organization, today reacted to the decision to withdraw plans to extend the school year to make up for lost learning time and to maintain a regular 180-day school year.

“Unfortunately, yesterday’s decision more than anything reflects the fact that educators were asked about extending the school year ten months into what teachers are describing as the hardest year of their life,” said Evan Stone, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Educators for Excellence.  “But even if folks are understandably feeling burned out right now, we owe it to students to come together and map out a comprehensive plan—including more learning time with their teachers, more individualized instruction, and additional social-emotional support—to address the significant impact distance learning and this pandemic have had on their development, especially for historically marginalized populations.”
