Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles Applauds Tentative Agreement Between SEIU Local 99 and LAUSD

March 24 (Los Angeles) — Educators for Excellence–Los Angeles (E4E-LA), a teacher-led organization, celebrated this afternoon’s announcement that the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 99 and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) have reached a tentative agreement.

“Teachers support all of our on-site staff and that is why we went on strike in solidarity,” said Marisa Crabtree, an English teacher at Lincoln High School and E4E-LA Teacher Leader. “Kids need webs of support—especially kids who experience food and housing insecurity, trauma, and mental health struggles. All workers at our school site contribute to this student support network and deserve reasonable wages and benefits for their work.”

“SEIU Local 99 members are essential to the success of students,” said Sarina Sande, Executive Director, Educators for Excellence-Los Angeles. “Without them, there is no additional support in classrooms and there are no meals prepared for students, no campuses cleaned and no buses driven. E4E-LA is grateful that Mayor Karen Bass was able to bring both sides together and an agreement was reached that will benefit not only SEIU Local 99 members, but our students, schools, and the greater Los Angeles community.”
