Joon was born in DaeJeon, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States at a young age, spending most of his life in the tristate area. He grew up in Princeton, NJ, and moved to Boston to attend college at Boston University before finally settling down in New York City.

After graduating from BU, education quickly became the central focus of Joon’s life. He began his career teaching at a middle school in the Bronx as a special education social studies teacher while pursuing a master’s degree in Teaching Special Education from Relay GSE. Driven to explore education through a global lens, he enrolled at Teachers College, Columbia University, earning an additional MA in International and Comparative Education.

During his four years in the classroom, Joon witnessed firsthand the powerful influence teachers hold as leaders within their schools and communities. Motivated by a desire to amplify teacher leadership and enact broader educational change, he joined E4E. Joon believes deeply in supporting educators as leaders who drive the essential shifts needed to achieve educational equity and systemic improvement.
As a proud Korean American, Joon draws from his personal and professional experiences to be a force for meaningful change at a critical moment for educators and students alike.
