Emily Levitt

Emily was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she developed a deep appreciation for public education thanks to the teachers who challenged and inspired her to use education as a pathway to achieving her goals.

After earning a B.S. in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience from the University of Michigan, Emily began her career with Teach For America, teaching sixth- and eighth-grade math at a middle school in the Bronx while earning a master’s degree from Relay Graduate School of Education. After four years in the classroom, she became increasingly passionate about education advocacy and wanted to better understand how to drive change at the systems level. This led her to pursue her M.A. in Education Policy at Teachers College, Columbia University, while transitioning into the education nonprofit sector as a data analyst.

Throughout her career, Emily has been drawn to the intersection of data analytics and social justice. Working directly with school data gave her firsthand insight into how bias can emerge in quantitative analysis and reinforced the importance of approaching data with context and nuance. Combined with her classroom experience, this perspective has shaped her belief that data is most valuable if it is accessible and actionable. She is passionate about translating complex analyses into meaningful insights that empower educators, practitioners, and decision-makers to better serve students.
