E4E-MN Statement On Senate’s Vote to Uphold the Universal Right to Education

Paula Cole, Executive Director of Educators for Excellence-Minnesota, issued the following statement in response to the Minnesota Senate’s passage of SF 3699:

“We applaud the Minnesota Senate for passing SF 3699. By strengthening protections for sensitive locations and reaffirming every child’s right to a free public education regardless of immigration status, Minnesota lawmakers have taken an important step toward ensuring students can focus on learning instead of fear.

“Educators across Minnesota have organized, signed petitions, and advocated tirelessly for this legislation because they know fear can keep children out of school, disrupt learning, lower attendance, and undermine trust in our classrooms. For students to thrive academically, they must feel safe and welcome when walking into school.

“The work, however, is not finished. We strongly urge the Minnesota House to now do its part and listen to educators and families, pass SF 3699, and ensure these protections become law.”
