E4E-Chicago Statement on Macquline King’s Appointment as CEO of Chicago Public Schools

Dr. Marlena Little, Executive Director of Educators for Excellence-Chicago (E4E-Chicago), issued the following statement:

“We’re thrilled to congratulate Dr. Macqueline King on being named CEO of Chicago Public Schools. Our city is gaining a leader who has vocalized a deep commitment to building relationships with communities and centering students in her decisions. As an organization that elevates educator voices and advocates for student-centered policies, we look forward to being a strong partner in helping bring that vision to life.

“The top priority that we’ve consistently heard from our educators is that Chicago must work to ensure students and teachers have all the supports needed to succeed. This includes access to high-quality instructional materials and support for educator mental health. Research and efforts from districts across the country show that pairing high-quality instructional materials with aligned professional learning drives meaningful gains in student achievement. It also shows that students benefit when we support the well-being of the educators at the front of the classroom.

“Chicago has already made progress toward addressing some of these priorities, and we hope Dr. King will build on it and scale these efforts even further. By advancing the policies that educators are calling for, such as a districtwide educator mental health strategy with clear supports and accountability, Chicago can lead the nation in retaining a diverse, high-quality educator workforce and bolstering student outcomes.”
