Minnesota teachers call on the Minnesota legislature to come back to the table in a special session. Our students deserve an education bill that serves them and their futures.
Tell the MPS Board of Education and MFT leadership to stop playing politics and protect teachers of color.
Without a contract agreement between the district and the union, teachers of color will remain in danger. These are excellent teachers, many of whom are newer to the district, and are particularly vulnerable to the district’s Last In First Off (LIFO) policy. In the case of layoffs, these newer teachers would be the first to be released from their positions.
Minnesota is home to some of the worst opportunity gaps in nation. Despite using a funding formula designed to send more money to districts with students living in poverty, it’s not working for far too many students who are not receiving an equitable education.
Gross inequities continue in schools in our city, state and nation, and students of color and those living in poverty are being shortchanged. We can change this.
