Statement from Jonathan Schleifer, executive director of Educators 4 Excellence-New York, on the UFT's election results

"On behalf of 6,500 New York City Educators 4 Excellence members, we congratulate Michael Mulgrew on winning another term as UFT President. We hope he'll use this incredible responsibility to lead the City's teacher union to elevate the teaching profession and provide our teachers the opportunities for leadership and professional growth they crave. Classroom educators raised many important issues during this election, including the need for an effective plan for teacher evaluation implementation, more training and support around the Common Core and a new contract that will recognize and reward excellence in teaching. E4E members—the majority of whom are also proud members of the UFT—look forward to sharing these ideas and the important work ahead."
