Educators for Excellence-New York Expresses Condolences after Fatal School Stabbing in the Bronx
The following is a statement from Co-Founders and Co-CEOs Evan Stone and Sydney Morris.
Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Management community of the Bronx.
Like teachers around the city, we were heartbroken to hear of the violence that struck the school and community, resulting in the tragic death of fifteen-year-old Matthew McCree and the terrible injury of sixteen-year-old Ariane LaBoy.
Teachers exist to nourish the minds and spirits of the young people in our care and it’s devastating when their lives are taken in such a senseless way.
As an organization, we deeply believe in and will continue to advocate for policies that help schools foster supportive environments where students and teachers feel safe and can focus on learning and teaching.
We are grateful to teachers in New York and across the country who are committed to advancing initiatives to ensure that all schools are safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces for all members of the school community.
