Common Core, from the bottom up: Guest commentary

In our combined 40 years of classroom and administrative experience, we’ve seen a lot of educational theories and ideas come and go. We’ve seen policymakers try to close achievement gaps, unify standards and elevate struggling students in myriad ways, to varying levels of success. Today, our schools in California are learning from those past lessons, and working to develop a better system. The Common Core State Standards are not perfect, and they are not without their problems in implementation, but they are rooted in a foundation that we believe stands to benefit the children of California.
