Call for NYC Reads to Expand to Middle School!

We commend New York City Mayor Eric Adams and NYC Public Schools’ Chancellor David Banks for their visionary NYC Reads initiative –a significant commitment to elevating literacy and evidence-based reading instruction in our schools.

The shift to evidence-based reading instruction is a positive first step, but the investment shouldn’t stop at elementary schools.

Join us and call on NYC Public Schools to expand NYC Reads to middle school and ensure that middle school students also receive high-quality reading instruction.

The need is just as urgent in middle schools. Middle school is a critical time for students to refine and strengthen existing skills such as comprehension and vocabulary. Furthermore, too many educators are currently forced to create curricula from scratch. We need to give middle school educators the tools they need to do their jobs and end the cycle of burnout that they are put through.

So join us and call on NYC Public Schools to expand NYC Reads to middle school. Let’s ensure that ALL teachers have the tools to do their job and give our students the high-quality resources they deserve.
