Sara Boedecker-Johnston

Regional Chief of Staff

Growing up in a family of educators, Sara developed a love of learning at an early age. Some of her favorite childhood memories include reading books with her parents and playing school with her sister. Sara attended public schools in Michigan before earning a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology and a Master of Education at Valparaiso University.

Sara began her career teaching a 4th/5th grade split class at an independent school in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood, eventually becoming the principal. She considers this the hardest and best of her roles, and the one where her belief in the power of great teaching and elevating teacher voice originated. Most recently, Sara served as a senior officer at a K-12 charter school network in Minneapolis. Over her eight-year tenure, she partnered with teachers, leaders, and board members on organizational culture and strategic planning/implementation.

Sara joined E4E to continue fighting for all children to have equitable access to a rigorous, culturally relevant education. She is thrilled to focus on strengthening team culture and effectiveness in her two favorite cities, Minneapolis and Chicago. Sara and her partner Kelley are raising their daughter Avis and a flock of Icelandic Leader Sheep in northern Minnesota.
