Born and raised in a small beach town in Southern California, Kristen grew up in a family that knew education was the great equalizer. As a child of an incarcerated parent and a first-generation college student, Kristen leaned on her teachers for support and guidance in paving the path toward higher education. As a student, Kristen began organizing at the prison in which her father resided, working with families to stand up against unfair policies and practices. After graduating college, Kristen booked a one-way ticket to South Carolina to work for then-Senator Obama’s presidential campaign.
As an organizer, Kristen learned the importance of collective voice and community organizing, and over the next few years, worked to hire and develop more than 300 staff and 900 fellows on Obama’s campaign. She worked with campaign staff to define their direction and find meaningful work in the progressive movement by running large-scale career events, coaching candidates and playing matchmaker between progressive causes and top talent. As the talent director at the New Organizing Institute, Kristen worked with employers across the country connecting talent for the 2014 midterm elections.
Kristen joined Educators for Excellence as the recruitment manager because she understands that hiring mission- and impact-driven talent is critical to realizing your mission. She fundamentally believes that hiring and organizing are synonymous and enjoys building relational power within E4E’s hiring systems. Kristen is also passionate about building a staff that embraces the unique qualities of one another and loves the opportunity to talk with passionate candidates every day.
