As the son of parents who worked in public education, both in the classroom and as an administrator, David understood the value of having a diverse set of voices impacting education. From his politically engaged family, he learned first-hand the importance of collective action. After completing his studies in Columbus, Ohio, David returned to Southern California to pursue a career in nonprofit development to improve educational outcomes for students in South Los Angeles.
David joined Educators for Excellence because he recognized the need to amplify teacher voices in education policy formation and advocacy. Prior to joining Educators for Excellence, David served as the director of political giving at a nonprofit where he worked to secure $14M for the highest-profile school board election in history. Previously, he was the corporate and foundation relations manager at a school district where he managed a $5M portfolio of private foundations and corporate partners. There he saw how necessary the involvement of teachers is in educational advocacy to ensure students from underserved communities receive a high-quality public education.
David holds a juris doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and a bachelor of arts from Whittier College.
