Brenda was born and raised in Chicago. She attended both private and public schools and graduated from Whitney Young Magnet High School before continuing her education at the University of Minnesota, Morris. The change of scenery presented a challenging transition, but she graduated with noted successes.
Education was a second career for her, which started in 2004. She served as a special education paraprofessional in middle school, working with seventh- and eighth-grade students for 10 years and was the restorative justice coordinator for two years in that same school district. The one overarching theme that has guided her journey in this work is that everyone has worth, no exceptions.
Brenda enjoys working for Educators for Excellence because it is an empowering and proactive organization that seeks to improve educational outcomes for all students and is not afraid to challenge the status quo.
